Microsuction Clinic Bristol

Microsuction is a wax removal technique using a binocular operating microscope allows for depth perception and magnification to look straight into the ear canal. Use of a very fine sterile suction device at low pressure allows removal of the wax

This technique means that we can always see what we are doing and can avoid touching the skin of the sides of the ear canal which makes the process a lot more comfortable.

Why is Microsuction better?

Compared to the traditional forms of wax removal – ear drops and irrigation or “syringing” – microsuction is:

  • Safer
  • Quicker
  • Cleaner and neater
  • Generally better tolerated with less side effects
  • More efficient and likely to need one appointment only
  • Doesn’t need weeks of waiting for drops to soften the wax

What to expect from ear Microsuction

We will talk you through the procedure, show you the equipment and require you to sign a consent form before we start. The microsuction process can be noisy and occasionally make you feel dizzy. This usually passes within a few seconds. The procedure can last up to 30 minutes for both ears. Once completed a letter will be sent to your GP to confirm what has been carried out and occasionally any complications are noted.

Preparation for Microsuction

Please put 2 drops of olive oil into the relevant ear/s twice a day for 1 week  prior to your appointment if time allows.
